During the first years of this blog's existence, I introduced you to some really cool sites for Cut out your images and remove backgrounds. Some of these sites no longer exist today and, above all, there are now much more powerful ones. In some cases, these sites which allow remove background from photo to keep only the foreground, even use the power of artificial intelligence!
It is important to have alternatives with this type of tool because not all of them work equally well depending on the types of images and foregrounds. Or not all of them have the same editing options (when they do)!
so here's a selection of 4 free tools in lines to remove the background from an image or photo!
To be able to compare these different tools, I tested them with the two photos below. The results displayed for each tool are raw, that is to say that I do not make any adjustment to the initial result generated by each tool.

Remove.bg
Present online for several years now, Remove.bg proves to be extremely effective.
Very easy to use, this tool does not require any special skills. You just have to upload your image and Remove.bg does all the work!
A brush system nevertheless allows you to adjust the result if certain parts of the image are poorly managed.
Big downside, only a reduced size image (up to 250kb) can be recovered for free. To obtain an HD version, you will have to buy credits.

Highlights
---
Very easy to use
High quality clipping
Possibility to adjust the result
No user account required
Weak points
---
Paid HD version
Trace
Trace is undeniably one of my favorites in the field of online clipping. Indeed, this tool is particularly effective and 100% free!
Trace does not offer the possibility to adjust the result, but considering the quality of the raw clipping, this option does not really seem necessary!
If the clipping proves particularly effective, the uploaded images do not respect the dimensions of the original image which can potentially cause problems.
Among the highlights of Trace are the ability to move the foreground on a layer and add a new background to your image (solid color or other image).
Small downside, it is not possible to cut out more than 5 photos per day!

Highlights
---
High quality clipping
100% free
Ability to add a new background
Weak points
---
Requires creation of a user account (free)
Crops the photo automatically
No possibility to adjust the result
Limit of 5 photos per 24 hours
AI Background Eraser
Far from being the best tool in this selection, AI Background Eraser can nevertheless be very effective with certain images.
Indeed, on the cat image, this tool did an incredible job of removing the hair without keeping the black background. On the other hand, on the Ferris wheel, the result is more mixed, there is still a bit of blue sky between the spokes of the wheel.
To be tested according to your image!
AI Background Eraser requires creating a user account and its free version does not allow processing images larger than 1080×1080 pixels and 2 MB.
We will also regret the absence of a retouching tool to refine the result!

Highlights
---
No limit on the number of images
Uneven but sometimes very successful results
Weak points
---
Paid HD version
Requires creation of a user account (free)
No retouching possible
Processing time a little long
Apowersoft Online Background Eraser
Apowersoft is a software company and offers a 100% free "online background eraser" as its flagship product.
This tool therefore allows you to process images of all sizes very efficiently.
Unfortunately, the processing result is generally a little below that of the other tools tested here. However, a brush system allows you to adjust the result manually.
Among the strong points of Apowersoft, we will note the possibility of adding a background (color or other image) to the cut-out image.

Highlights
---
100% free
Possibility to adjust the result
Ability to add a new background
No user account required
Weak points
---
Less precise clipping than other tools

I really like this selection, especially because it highlights a very true point: depending on the image, a tool can be excellent in one case and much less convincing in another. The article clearly explains the differences between Remove.bg, Trace, AI Background Eraser, and Apowersoft, particularly regarding the quality of the background removal, the limitations of the free versions, and the retouching options.
Personally, I also sometimes use imagecleanupai.com when I need to do more than just remove a background. The site isn't just for removing text; it also lets you remove watermarks, objects, and logos, and it even has a background removal tool. I especially appreciate the ability to refine the area to be cleaned and the fact that the tool rebuilds the texture around the removed area to maintain a natural look. For product visuals, screenshots, or images that need a quick cleanup, it's a really useful addition to this type of comparison.
