5 Ways to Extend Your Home Wi-Fi Range

In 2024, a good Wi-Fi connection has become essential to be able to use all your connected devices (iPhone, iPad, computer, etc.). However, sometimes your signal may not be strong enough to reach certain areas of your home.

Having trouble accessing the Internet in remote corners of your home? Don’t panic! There are many solutions available to extend the range of your Wi-Fi.

Discover 5 tips to extend the range of your Wi-Fi at home:

Place your router in the right place

First thing: the position of your Wi-Fi router. The latter has a major impact on the quality of the connection. Yes! If your router is hidden in a corner or in a closed piece of furniture for example, it can be difficult for the signal to reach all the rooms in your home.

So, place it in a central and elevated location in the house, preferably away from thick walls or metal objects that could block the signal.

Use a Wi-Fi repeater

Second tip, if your house is large or has several floors, a Wi-Fi repeater is undoubtedly the best solution!

It actually captures your router's existing signal and rebroadcasts it to cover a wider area. To properly configure your repeater, you'll need to log into your main router's web interface.

For example, and for configure access to the SFR Box Plus web interface, follow the instructions provided to optimize range. There are many online resources available if needed.

Change the Wi-Fi channel

Finally, interference between different Wi-Fi networks can significantly degrade signal quality. Most routers use the same broadcast channels by default, which can create congestion, especially if you live in an apartment in a large building and a big city.

To fix this, go to your router's web interface and change the channel to a less congested one.

Set up a mesh network

Less well-known, mesh Wi-Fi systems are becoming increasingly popular. They allow you to create a seamless network throughout your home, using multiple access points connected to each other.

This helps prevent signal interruptions when you move from one room to another. Many modern boxes, such as the Freebox, offer the ability to manage this type of configuration via an intuitive interface such as FreeboxOS.

Opt for CPL adapters

Third, Powerline Adapters (PLC) can also be an effective alternative to extend your Wi-Fi network.

These use your home's electrical cables to transmit data and create Wi-Fi hotspots in areas where the signal is weak.

As for installation, it's pretty simple: plug in a powerline adapter near your router, and another in the area where you want to boost the signal.
