When it comes to graphic design, Adobe Illustrator has been the king of minds for many years... the only problem is that this software is unaffordable for ordinary people; only professionals can justify purchasing it.
There are, however, many alternatives to Illustrator or Photoshop, often free, such as the free GIMP project (which is probably the most complete free photo editor available today) or the online tool Photopea.
But these are not the only tools available. Some tools that appeared a few years ago are starting to gain momentum. This is the case of Gravit designer, a vector drawing tool that has the dual advantage of being usable online and having a free version. No need to install software on your computer, everything is done in your browser! And the tool, which has existed since 2014, is really very complete with all the essential tools for photo editing.

Gravit Designer was born from a bet: to create in less than a month a vector editing tool that could work in a web browser… 4 weeks later, the bet was met, a first version of Gravit was put online! Since then, the tool has not stopped evolving and is still evolving!
This tool will prove ideal for working on vector illustrations, application and website interfaces or for retouching images and photos. The interface of Gravit Designer is very close to that of Illustrator and will allow a quick start for those familiar with Adobe software.
In terms of features, there are quite a few nice things, including:
- system of layers that can be nested, locked, moved…
- tracing tool (anchor points…)
- "smart objects", most shapes can be modified with special behaviors (corners can be rounded, hexagons can be modified into stars...)
- insert text
- styles: application of gradients, colors, effects… on shapes and objects
- “smart duplicate”: tool for duplicating shapes by interpolating transformations for each duplicated element
- “smart guides”: system of guides to facilitate the alignment of objects

Gravit Designer has a free version that offers 500MB of cloud storage, PDF exports (72 and 150 dpi), and RGB color space only.
To unlock more features (export formats, unlimited cloud, CMYK and TLS color space, etc.) you will need to opt for the PRO version at €45 per year.
