The other day, I found myself with a very simple problem. When I adjust the volume of my iPhone speakers, I use the physical volume buttons on the edge of the phone. However, these allow you to adjust the volume in increments and do not allow you to fine-tune the sound level. So, when I was at the minimum notch before another press completely cuts off the sound, the volume coming out of my speakers was still too loud…
So it was impossible to finely adjust the volume of my iPhone speakers under these conditions in order to obtain the optimal volume... so I went to take a look in the iOS settings, but I found nothing.
Puzzled by this problem, I then asked this question on Twitter.
Luckily, a certain @_MrFlavien_ was around and was able to provide a solution to my problem. And the good news is that the solution is very simple and I had it right under my nose all along.
Adjust iPhone volume more finely
To fine-tune the volume of your iPhone or iPad, you will be able to go through the control center!
The procedure to launch the control center will depend on the model of your device:
- From iPhone X, swipe down from the top right corner of your iPhone
- For iPhone SE and earlier models (iPhones with a physical home button), swipe up from the bottom of the screen
In Control Center, locate the volume gauge and click on it to expand it (this will make it easier).

Place your finger on the gauge and adjust the volume by sliding it. You will notice that you can adjust the sound much more finely and reach a minimum sound… really minimum as shown in the screenshots below:

Anyway, this is a really simple trick for a problem that kept me on my toes for a few days! Thanks to @_MrFlavien_ for the solution.
If you have any other tips on iPhone volume or otherwise, feel free to post them in the comments below.

It doesn't work for me :'( I'm disgusted even at minimum, even with the sound bar empty, so normally at zero, it's still too loud with my headphones, impossible to listen to, for example, a relaxation to sleep or something! It's super annoying!!
If you ever have another solution for me, I'm interested! Thanks!
Hello Chloe,
It's very strange that there is still sound if the soundbar is at 0
Oh thank you!!! Thank you so much for the tip, you just saved my nights!!!
Ahah! I understand that it annoyed me for a long time too 😀
