In a study published online, Kenneth Hansraj, chief of spinal surgery at the New York Spine Surgery & Rehabilitation Medicine, sought to demonstrate the weight exerted on the cervical vertebrae by a bad position when consulting a smartphone.
As shown in the photo below, if you look at your smartphone while bending your neck 45 degrees, you are exerting a force of more than 22 kg on your cervical vertebrae. In the long term, this type of posture, which increases the pressure on the cervical vertebrae, can lead to premature wear, tears, degeneration or even require surgery.
