On his website The Earth Observatory Dedicated to sharing its photos and discoveries with the general public, NASA has just unveiled an astonishing project that is more art than science.
Indeed, Adam Voiland, the scientific editor of this site, has decided to publish his alphabet based on images of the Earth taken from space.
The idea came to him a few years ago while working on an article about forest fires… seeing a photo of a plume of smoke over Canada, a V appeared to him. He then asked himself the following question:
Would it be possible to find the 26 letters of the alphabet using only NASA satellite images and photos taken by astronauts?
Finally, after more than 3 years of research, helped by readers of the NASA site and his colleagues, he finally managed to gather all the letters of the alphabet. Some letters were easier than others to find like the O or the C, but others were a real nightmare like the A, the B and the R… Finally, they are all there and here below is the NASA alphabet!
