The Hack Academy raises your awareness of cybersecurity with humor and education

Article updated on January 24, 2021

Le CIGREF (Club Informatique des Grandes Entreprises Françaises) launched a campaign in October aimed at the general public to raise awareness among individuals of the risks inherent to the Internet and private data.

This humorous campaign invites 4 fictional hackers to participate in the "Hack Academy", which follows the standards of reality TV shows, to present 4 hacking techniques that you could be a victim of. To do this, the 4 characters are staged to popularize these hacking techniques and prevent you from falling into the trap.

For the President of CIGREF, Pascal Buffard, the issues surrounding the security of personal data are very important.

Everyone must be able to feel concerned about the protection of their data and that of their company. The issue goes far beyond personal inconveniences, even if they can sometimes be extremely penalizing. Adopting the right actions with regard to our personal data is an issue of economic and national security. In a networked world, the capillarity of our address books, for example, is not always perceived, its consequences even less!

The candidates:

Dimitri: Https secure payment

Technical: If you connect to an unsecured merchant website at the time of payment, a hacker can very easily retrieve your credit card information.

Jenny: Password theft

Technique: Steal the password from a website or try many times until you find the right password, for example by going on social networks and collecting personal information about your life.

Martin: Malware

Technique: Program developed with the aim of harming a computer system. It can be hidden in software (free or not) to download or in a USB key.

Willy: Phishing

Technique: Make the victim believe that they are contacting a trusted third party in order to extract personal information from them such as their credit card number or a password.

On the site, each video is accompanied by a short quiz to check that you have understood the issues of each technique in order to avoid getting trapped!

In short, the site Hack Academy in addition to being funny, it is very well done and very ergonomic. It is a pleasure to browse it and discover in a popularized way the risks that you run at the level of your personal data and the explanations that go well to protect you against these risks!

A great awareness campaign, just the kind we could want more of!
