I have often told you about free online tools that allow you to cut out images to remove the background like Remove.bg ou Trace, but this is the first time I've come across a site that allows you to do the same thing on a video.
Indeed, unscreen is a fairly powerful tool that will allow you to keep the foreground and remove the background from a video and replace it if you wish with an animated backdrop!
This tool uses the technology developed for remove.bg with an effort made on temporal coherence and smoothing of the clipping in order to obtain a good quality result in the context of a video.
Its operation is very simple:
- Click Upload Clip to upload your video or Search GIf if you want to use a GIF from Giphy
- wait for the tool to process your video
- choose (if you wish) to add a background: video, GIF, color or image
Note that Unscreen works with many formats: MP4, MOV, WEBM, OGG or GIF and there is no size or duration limit… of course, the larger the video, the longer the processing time will be.
You will then be able to recover your file in GIF, animated PNG format or as a ZIP archive containing all the images of the video. Unfortunately, it is not possible to recover your video in MP4 format in the free version of the site, you will have to opt for the pro version!
However, if you are a fan of Animated GIFs, you will be able to have fun and create great memes !
When you see the feats that Unscreen manages to achieve, you'll think that green screen sellers have something to worry about! No more need to film yourself in front of a plain background to make your friends believe that you're on vacation in the sun!
