When you're an artist, you're sometimes a little crazy! I think that's the case with the Swedish craftsman and audiovisual artist Love Hulten and his completely crazy VOC-25 vocal synthesizer project! Indeed, this synthesizer combines sound with image by combining a keyboard for playing voice samples and a sort of screen made up of 25 toy dentures that chatter their teeth each time they are used!
here's how he defines and explains his work:
VOC-25 is a conceptual vocal synthesizer based on the Axoloti core and 25 plastic dentures, each denture representing a single note on the keyboard. The three-part wooden setup echoes the look of a classic desktop computer comprising a monitor, main console, and keyboard. RAW voice samples are sent to the main console via USB, creating a personal voice bank. Two effects are built in, reverb and delay. The Axoloti card inputs MIDI via the 25-key keyboard, but it also outputs MIDI. These signals are converted to DC via control cards located inside the monitor segment. The custom-made cards drive the “chorus” – 25 individual solenoids, each connected to a set of articulated teeth. The setup can be used standalone with its built-in speakers, but it also produces mono outputs on the back, and using external monitors is a good way to reduce mechanical noise.
I don't know about you, but I find the idea so absurd that it's brilliant!
