E.ggTimer, a timer in your web browser

With the advent of smartphones, if there is one object that has completely disappeared from your kitchen, it is the timer. 3 minutes for a soft-boiled egg, 5 minutes for a soft-boiled egg… the timer as a physical object is a thing of the past. In fact, all smartphones now have a timer (Hours) and there are even apps with predefined times depending on what you want to prepare.

But never mind, for some random reason, you may need a timer other than the one on your smartphone… the simple solution is called E.ggtimer.com.

It is a very simple website that uses the functions of a timer.

How to use E.ggTimer.com

To use E.ggtimer.com, you just need to enter the desired time (with English units: hours, minutes, seconds or even months, days, weeks…). For 10 seconds, type “10 seconds” for 1 hour and 10 minutes, type “1 hour 10 minutes”…

Then click on “Start” to start the timer.

Once the timer is launched, you have a few options that are very easily adjustable from a toolbar located at the bottom of the screen. Indeed, on the countdown page, you will be able to adjust a few parameters:

  • Timer theme: Classic, Digital, Dot Matrix, Large Bar, Slow, Sunset or Ugly
  • Enabling/disabling an audible alert at the end of the countdown
  • Activation/deactivation of a notification at the end of the countdown

“Dot Matrix” Theme

So, at the end of the time, you will be alerted by your ringtone and/or notification… depending on what you have set.

It is also possible to use special calendars for holidays. For example, typing "new years day" will give you a countdown to the new year, "valentine" will allow you not to forget Valentine's Day, use "easter" for Easter or "Christmas" for Christmas... In short, you get the idea.

Some advanced options to go even further

For the more intrepid, E.ggTimer has a few hidden options summarized in the help available by clicking on the "?" icon.

First of all, it is possible to add a label under the timer. To do this, simply type the following code in the URL bar of your browser :

https://e.ggtimer.com/(VOTRE_ETIQUETTE)/in/(TEMPS)

For example, if you click on the link: https://e.ggtimer.com/Visiter_Byothe.fr/in/10seconds you will get this:

And here are all the other parameters you can use by following the same URL logic and replacing the elements in parentheses with the values you like:

  • The "muted" parameter to define whether the countdown is muted by default (true or false, default is false)
/(TEMPS)?muted=true
  • The "notify" parameter to define whether a notification is displayed at the end of the countdown (true or false, default true)
/(TEMPS)?notify=false
  • The “hideToolbar” parameter to hide the toolbar default (true or false, default false)

/(TEMPS)?hideToolbar=true
  • The "hideNudge" parameter to hide the audio interaction callback (true or false, default false)
/(TEMPS)?hideNudge=true
  • The “volume” parameter to set the volume of the alert ringtone (from 0 to 1, default 1)
/(TEMPS)?volume=0.5
  • The "theme" parameter to set the countdown theme (gg_timer_ugly, gg_timer_classic, gg_timer_digital, gg_timer_dotmatrix, gg_timer_largebar, gg_timer_sunset, gg_timer_slow, default gg_timer_classic)
/(TEMPS)?theme=gg_timer_digital
  • The "sound" parameter to set the alert sound type (gg_sound_beep, gg_sound_ring, default gg_timer_beep)
/(TEMPS)?sound=gg_timer_ring

It is of course possible to combine these different parameters and to do this, you will need to use the “&” sign instead of the “?” to chain them together…

For example: https://e.ggtimer.com/Visiter_Byothe.fr/in/10seconds?notify=false&muted=true&hideToolbar=true&hideNudge=true&volume=0.5&theme=gg_timer_digital

In short, E.ggtimer.com is a simple and practical tool to use a timer directly in your web browser. It allows you to define precise times, set alert options and follow the countdown in real time. It is accessible at the address E.ggtimer.com.
