In some countries, it is unthinkable to drink tap water. This is the case, for example, not so far from home, in the Netherlands, where a large majority of people only drink bottled water. In France, on the other hand, we are fortunate to have tap water that is generally of very good quality.
But we are not all equal... In France, since 1970, municipalities have been responsible for managing water services. They can directly manage them or entrust this mission to specialized companies. In total, there are more than 30 public services dedicated to water and sanitation. So, even if there are draconian standards, it is understandable that there are differences depending on where you live.
As a result, UFC Que Choisir has set up an interactive map of water quality in France.
To use it, simply enter the postal code or the name of the municipality where you live and you will know at a glance the quality of your water.
This study measures the compliance of 50 contaminants and physicochemical parameters as defined by the regulations in force in France. Thus, if the tests showed less than 5% of non-compliant analyses for the most important criteria and less than 25% for the others, the quality of your water will be judged "good". To simplify reading, a series of colored icons gives you information about the water.
In short, water is an important resource and we are lucky in France to have quality infrastructure in our country! So if you had any doubts about your drinking water… this is your chance to reassure yourself (or not)!
