The Internet Archive does real archiving and memory work for everything related to digital culture. We owe to this non-profit initiative some very beautiful projects like WayBack Machine (which allows you to review a website as it was on a given date) or even the creation of a nice arcade game library.
But among the many cultural preservation projects that the site offers, there is also a resource that offers over 7 MS-DOS games.
The dominant operating system from the 1980s to the early 1990s, MS-DOS was a boom time for the world of video games. Everything had to be created or invented. Many of today's ultra-famous licenses were born during these few years.
This is why The Internet Archive has made it its duty to safeguard this video game heritage which is at the origin of all the games that exist today.
Among these games you will find great classics like Dune 2, The oregon trail, Prince of Persia, Castle Wolfenstein, Sim City and many more. All games are playable directly in your browser without plugin or and do not require software installation.
Indeed, The Internet Archive uses EM-DOSBOX, an emulator integrated into the browser and allowing these games to run.
There is something for everyone: action, strategy, adventure... some are great classics, others have gone less noticed or have been a complete flop...
On the other hand, the emulator is still in beta (for over 7 years), so there are some bugs and some slowdowns that will probably be fixed with future updates of the emulator.
