Ever wanted to know how well you really know your neighborhood or the city you grew up in? Well, I came across a little online geography game that you're sure to enjoy. This game is called Back Of Your Hand and he challenges you to prove how familiar you are with your local environment. And believe me, it's not as easy as it seems. There's always a little dead end whose name you've never heard.
The English expression "knowing something like the back of your hand" translates to "knowing something like the back of your hand"... and that's what this little free game wants to test. Do you know your city like the back of your hand?
The site and its interface are in English, but the maps are in the local language of each country.
Test your knowledge of your city's streets by playing Back Of Your Hand
When you arrive on the site, it locates you on the map (or at least locates your internet connection). A red dot surrounded by a circle shows on the map the area in which you will play.
If you want to play where you are right now, that's perfect, otherwise you can move around the map until you find the place you're interested in. Zoom buttons allow you to more easily find the place around which you want to play. You then just have to click on the place that will represent the center of your game: your address, your neighborhood...
What Back Of Your Hand may be missing is a search which would allow you to directly type in the name of the desired city or an address and be directed there more quickly.
Once the location is found, you can set the difficulty level of your game by clicking on "Settings". There you will be able to choose your level which goes from tourist to taxi driver. The type of streets and monuments will depend on the chosen level. If you want to avoid tiny dead ends, choose "Tourist".
Then you can set the radius in which you want to play, from 100m around the central point, up to 5km. The last setting concerns the number of questions in the game (from 5 to 50).
When everything is ready, click on “Play Solo” on the left to start the game.
From there, a list of street or square names appears in the left column. Your mission? Find the exact location of each name by clicking on the map. Once you've chosen, click "Confirm" and the game will tell you how far you are from the actual location. The more accurate you are, the more points you earn (maximum 100% per question).
At the end of the game, a summary screen reminds you of the points you have won and gives you your total score.
On the home page, a “Play with friends” button allows you to play with your friends or family. The site will generate a unique link based on the game settings you have made (including location) to ask the exact same questions to everyone who uses the link. You will have to share your scores with each other as the game does not allow you to keep and compare scores between different participants.
