With the European Union, traveling in Europe has become disconcertingly easy. Fifteen years ago, having forgotten my passport and identity card, the simple presentation of my Carte Bleue allowed me to take a plane to Portugal (this would no longer be possible today because of the high risks).
But not all trips are so simple, and it is not always easy to find the correct and up-to-date information on certain destinations: do you need a visa, what is the local currency, what are the power outlets like, is it easy to connect to the Internet... In short, travel is an adventure and it is not always easy to know everything about your destination.
It is with this in mind that a young Croatian, Sven Kapudija, the decision to create BaseTrip, a website that answers most of these questions for most countries around the world, all based on your country of origin.
A real goldmine for travelers, BaseTrip will first ask you for your country of origin and then your destination.
A page will then be displayed with a very large amount of information, each more useful than the last when you want to prepare a trip:
- a short summary of the country (with a link to TripAdvisor)
- the weather
- the size of electrical outlets and voltage
- currency and exchange rate
- the cost of living
- the quality of internet coverage
- everything you need to know about mobile phone operators
- the codes to call the country from its country of origin and vice versa
- recommended vaccines
- important telephone numbers (police, emergency services, fire brigade)
- payment card operator numbers in case of theft
- the address of the embassy
- required visas
And the best part is that this information is, when necessary, adapted according to your country of origin. This is the case for example of the cost of living, the exchange rate or even the address of the embassy of your country.
Additionally, users can add their recommendations which helps improve the sheet with relevant information.
The only small downside, but which should not scare travelers, is that the site is entirely in English (it's still better than in Croatian though!).
In short, it's great and it's called BaseTrip !
