I spend many hours every day on my computer for work, for gaming or even for working on this blog… My workspace is not particularly sexy, it is just a space delimited by my 2 screens, my keyboard and my mouse pad… And all around, it is a mess… which accumulates. An organized mess, but a mess nonetheless! And to top it all off, the lighting in the room where it is located is really not great especially since the brightness even during the day remains low!
Since I work a lot with paperwork, this lack of light in my workspace is a real handicap. I get tired more quickly (especially in my eyes) and I am clearly less efficient than if I worked in a more user-friendly environment.
And since I'm probably not the only one in this case, the company BenQ, which I knew more for its video projectors, has launched the ScreenBar, a lamp that attaches to your screen to help you improve your productivity.
By the way, and I discovered this while preparing this article, BenQ is the acronym for Bringing Enjoyment N Qquality to life, literally Bringing pleasure and quality to life. With the ScreenBar, we can say that the Taiwanese company is trying to answer the second part of its motto!

A desk lamp to improve your productivity
It's silly to say, but a simple desk lamp can greatly improve your working conditions and therefore your productivity...

Finally, when I say "simple desk lamp", I am not doing justice to the ScreenBar since it is a product that is really well thought out to integrate as discreetly and efficiently as possible into your work environment.
The ScreenBar has real advantages over a traditional desk lamp: it does not take up space on the desk, it does not cause reflections on the screen and it adapts to the ambient light...photo of the desk before / after
To avoid glare, the ScreenBar has been designed with an asymmetrical optic that only illuminates the desk and therefore does not send light onto the screen! By avoiding glare, this lamp reduces eye fatigue and increases your concentration!

But that's not all, since BenQ has equipped this lamp with an ambient light sensor that allows you to adapt and optimize the lighting provided. The idea is to adapt the lighting to reach 500 lux, the recommended illuminance value for office work. If your environment is very dark, the ScreenBar will only go up to 300 lux to avoid too marked a difference with your environment.
Finally, it is possible to adjust the color temperature of the ScreenBar to improve your efficiency and comfort. Indeed, warm light is preferred for moments of relaxation and allows you to unwind while cold light is more suitable for moments of concentration!
To finish with the design, BenQ engineers have developed a clamp system that is supposed to adapt to any computer screen (from 1 to 3 cm thick). It is the weight of the clamp that allows the lamp to be secured to the monitor. For the power supply, this is also rather well thought out since the ScreenBar works using a USB cable that can be connected to your computer or even to your screen if it has a USB output.
