For various reasons, you may need to blur or black out faces or numbers and text on images or photos... To do this, you can of course use image editing software like Photoshop or Paint, but know that there is an online solution that allows you to do it better (than Paint) and more easily (than Photoshop) and also for free !
This online service is called facepixelizer and can be very effective.
In fact, to start, you need to go to facepixelizer :
- Start by dragging an image from your computer onto the area of the site where it says “ Drop Image Files Here«
- If you upload a photo with people, the app will automatically detect faces
- All you have to do is choose the type of anonymization you want to use: blurring (Blur), pixelization (Pixelize) or Anonymous mask (GF)
- Then click on “Save Image” to download your anonymized image
Note that at any time you can press the yellow “Revert” button to return to the initial state of your photo.
However, if your case is a little more complex and you want, for example, to blur only one of the faces in an image with several people or even hide a piece of text (an IP address, a password, a name, an email address, etc.), you will have to select the manual mode (“Manual”)… Don't worry, nothing very complicated in this mode, but more possibilities and settings!
In this manual mode, you will, in fact, be able to:
- choose between 3 effects, note that blurring and pixelation are still present, but redaction makes its appearance (and the mask disappears)!
- determine the “degree” of the effect applied (more or less strong)
- combine several effects (including blur and pixelize to prevent any reading of a blurred word)
In manual mode, to apply an effect, simply draw a rectangle at the desired location using the mouse.
Finally, there is also an option to crop the image directly in the tool which can avoid going through several online services and therefore save a significant amount of time.
Tip: it is possible (in auto and manual mode) to remove part of the effect by making a selection with the mouse from the lower right corner of the area you do not want to blur:
In conclusion, facepixelizer is a super effective webapp to blur texts, hide faces, hide things in your photos. The service is very easy to use, it has few options but ensures the essentials and ensures them rather well.
