Bulambuli Valley: Uganda’s Silicon Valley?

Article updated on November 7, 2025

What happens when an NGO adopts the codes of the largest technology companies in Silicon Valley for an entrepreneurial project in Africa?

This is the question that the London-based NGO Communities for Development asked itself in order to finance and train "rural entrepreneurs" in the Bulambuli Valley in Uganda.

The incredible response from this organization was through the crowdfunding on Indiegogo. Indeed, in order to bring an innovative and offbeat message, the NGO wanted to highlight the entrepreneurial qualities of the valley's inhabitants by using all the codes of advertising films for Silicon Valley start-ups through a video intended to support the fundraising campaign.

Chicken™, Egg™, Tomato, Chair & Co, Cows & Cows, Fruity… are all “typical projects” described in the video below to show all the qualities of innovation and resourcefulness of the inhabitants of Bulambuli.

Our 3D egg printer, Chicken™, is not space tourism, says Ugandan entrepreneur Peter Mushelekhe in a pitch to Richard Branson.

But it will make a difference here.

While the message is meant to be humorous, the campaign and the project are very real and serious.

As I write these lines, the project has already raised $5 out of a goal of $000 and I have no doubt that they will achieve their goals as the message is so original. Moreover, if you fund $20 (about €000) you will have the right to name a hen. With $100, you will be able to name a cow 😉!
