Are you having a problem with a stuck Caps Lock key? Can't turn off the Caps Lock key on your keyboard? Does it only type capital letters? This problem can occur if your keyboard settings are configured so that the Shift key, not the Caps Lock key, disables Caps Lock. Another possible cause could be a faulty Caps Lock key. In this article, I'll show you how to identify the underlying cause and fix the stuck Caps Lock key!
Caps Lock key stuck: Check the key set to disable caps lock
You probably don't know this, but there is a keyboard option in Windows that allows you to determine which key between Shift and Caps Lock to disable Caps Lock. By default, this is usually the Caps Lock key which allows this deactivation, but it can happen for some reason that it is the Shift key that is used. The path to access this option is quite similar between Windows 11 and Windows 10, but there is a small variation at startup. So here is how to do it under both operating systems:
In Windows 11
Let’s see how to try to fix the Caps Lock key stuck issue on Windows 11:
- Right-click on the start button and open them Settings

- In the left bar select the tab Time and language
- Then open the settings of Capture to the right

- Then go to advanced settings keyboard

- Click on the link Language bar options

- In the window Text and language services, go to the tab Advanced Key Settings.
- if the "Press SHIFT key" option is selected, check the option Press the CAPS LOCK key in the section titled To unlock caps lock
- Click on Apply to validate the changes, then click on OK to close the window

And there you have it, try to see if the caps lock turns off when you click on Caps Glass.
In Windows 10
Let’s see how to try to fix the Caps Lock key stuck issue on Windows 10:
- Right-click on the start button and open them Settings

- Go to the tab Peripheral devices

- Then open the settings of Capture left and select Advanced Keyboard Settings to the right

Make sure the Caps Lock key is not broken
If Caps Lock is set to turn off when you press the Caps Lock key, but it doesn't respond, the key may simply be faulty. To check this, go to a keyboard testing site like Test-clavier.fr.
This site (or any other of the same kind) allows you to test the different keys on your keyboard. When you click on them, they will light up on the site letting you know if the key is working or not.
So once you are on such a site, press the Caps Lock key and see if it is registered correctly. If it is not, you most likely have a mechanical problem with your keyboard.

It's possible that there's some dirt or crumbs inside the keyboard, preventing key presses from registering properly. You can try cleaning your keyboard to see if that fixes the problem. If that doesn't work, you'll need to have your keyboard (or laptop) repaired or disable and reassign the Caps Lock key.
I hope these tips help you identify the root cause and fix your stuck Caps Lock key issue!
