Google has just released a new extension on Chrome that allows you to translate bits of text on the web on the fly. It is very soberly titled "Google Translate" just like its online translation tool (Google Translate).
You can instantly translate a piece of text by highlighting it with your mouse.
To use it is very simple. You just need to install the pluggin by going to this address from the Chrome browser. If you are browsing a page whose language is different from the default language on your computer, highlight an excerpt of the text with your mouse and click on the icon with an A on a blue background that will appear next to your selection.
A small box will open with the translation in your default language and even the possibility to listen to the translation read by a charming voice.
The default language can be changed in the extension options, as well as how the translation will be triggered (when you click on the icon, as soon as you select text in a foreign language, or only when you click on the extension icon in the browser bar).
In short, the extension Google Translate It's not revolutionary, but it can be really handy for translating small pieces of text directly on the website you're browsing without wasting time going to… Google Translate….
The only small downside is that this extension only allows you to select short passages (a maximum of forty words a priori).
