So what is Ciclade?
Have you ever wondered what happens to bank accounts that have been dormant or unclaimed for years? Well, there is a service in France that takes care of these lost funds and allows holders, beneficiaries and heirs to recover them. This service is called Ciclade and has a free online tool offered by the Caisse des Dépôts.
When a bank account, employee savings product or life insurance contract remains inactive for a long time, banks and other financial institutions are required to close these accounts and transfer the money to the Caisse des DépôtsThe latter keeps this money for a certain time in order to allow the persons concerned to search for it via Ciclade and to manage restitution requests.
Indeed, This money still belongs to you, even if it has been transferred to the Caisse des Dépôts. However, without a claim after a total period of 30 years, these funds are definitively returned to the State or to the Overseas Communities for New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna.
Ciclade concerns many financial products, such as current accounts, savings accounts, home savings plans (PEL), life insurance contracts and many others.
It may seem crazy to imagine that you could forget a bank account, but the most common cases involve an unexpected inheritance, a death in the family (more or less recent), an elderly parent who has forgotten the existence of an account, a forgotten supplementary pension contract, an old savings account opened by your parents when you were little, life insurance that has expired or even a move that has resulted in the loss of important mail...

So, if you think you might have some money forgotten somewhere, it's time to give this service a try and start looking for those lost funds. Who knows, you might get back some money that is rightfully yours and that you would have otherwise let slip away. So, let's now take a look at how this free and totally legit site works!
How to use Ciclade to find lost money?
Now that you know what Ciclade is, you're probably wondering how to use it to find lost money. Don't worry, it's very simple! Here are the steps to follow to start searching:
- Visit the Ciclade website at www.ciclade.caissedesdepots.fr.
- In the menu at the top of the site, click on Start my search
- You will then access a form requesting a lot of information about the account holder you are looking for (name, first name, date of birth, nationality, last known address, etc.) and possibly an account number if you know it.
It is important to keep in mind that even if you are searching at random, the more specific information you provide in the search form, the more likely it is to be successful.
- Then click Start my search

- You will then arrive at a summary page where you can check the information entered. Click on Start my search again and cross your fingers.
At this point, two paths will present themselves to you depending on the search result.
In case Ciclade doesn't find anything, tough luck, you won't get rich by chance! You can still try other searches with more precise criteria... you never know.

In case the search turns up something, don't get too excited too soon. It just means that you are perhaps the beneficiary of a forgotten sum of money.
You will therefore have to continue your process to try to claim this sum:
- Create your personal space on the Ciclade website.
