Dario is a connected gadget for the diabetes management, in the manner of statistical management of a FitBit, but adapted for blood sugar. Dario connects to your phone via the audio jack to keep track of your blood sugar.
Enter your meals, your activities and check your blood sugar: the application takes care of managing your statistics and can even advise you on the insulin dose you need! The iOS app was launched on December 12 in England, Australia and New Zealand, with other countries expected to follow current 2014, but this requires regulatory validation. For the United States, FDA approval is expected in the second half of 2014.
In itself, the concept is not new, there are many "lifestyle" applications to count your calories, your meals, your hours of sleep, your periods possibly... Some applications even already allow you to monitor your diabetes like glooko et MySugr, but these applications must be used in parallel with an existing glucose tester, while Dario wants to stand out not only by offering a more global offer (because the blood sugar tester is integrated), but also in the design with a practicality and a rather nice and resolutely young look. I wouldn't go so far as to say that diabetes is becoming trendy, far from it, but it may allow some people to no longer hide in the toilets... Knowing that a diabetic person must test their blood sugar more than 5 times a day, and remain attentive to their diet and physical exercise. In addition to being a certain medical disadvantage, there is also a stigma on the part of those who do not know this disease and the monitoring it requires.
Today, the trend is towards a Better comprehension and a reduction in the stigma of diabetes, and this is reflected in the Social Media with an increasingly important activity with, in particular, the appearance of hashtags #DT1 et #DT2, for diabetes of type 1 and type 2 on Twitter.
Some studies have positive conclusions as to the link between digital activity and state management.

Le Journal of Medical Internet Research found that adults with type 1 diabetes showed significant improvement in their glycemic control after using a diabetes management app on their smartphone. communication with healthcare professionals is also improved and can even be automated with the sending of the follow-up on a weekly basis.
Dario's mission is to empower people with diabetes to make the right decisions, but also to see diabetes as a way of life rather than as a disease… A similar concept (Alcohoot), aims to monitor sobriety with a well-designed connected device that measures blood alcohol level.
Through which channels you reach those people, classic and out of the box.
