That's it! You've decided to live a monastic life and focus on contemplation, on the things that really matter. You want to delete your online presence... starting with social networks that take up 50% of your waking hours... You never miss a tweet, a Facebook post... but that's it, you've cracked, you can't take it anymore. There's too much information, too much news... you want to breathe.
So to restore your virginity on social networks, I have listed for you the steps to take to delete an account on the main networks.
Delete X / Twitter account
Deleting your X account (ex-Twitter) is quite simple:
- Visit X from your computer and log in if you haven't already
- In the options column on the left, click on More > Settings & Support > Settings & Privacy
- In Settings, select Your Account
- Once in Your Account you should see the option appear Deactivate the account
- X tells you that you can select a period during which you can reactivate the account before permanent deletion: 30 days or 12 months.
- Select theone of the two reactivation periods (the shortest if you want your data to be deleted quickly)
- Then at the bottom of the page, click on deactivate.

After 30 days (or 12 months depending on your choice), all your personal data will be deleted… But in the meantime, you can reactivate your account at any time by logging in.
On the mobile application, the operating mode is identical. Only the name of the tabs may change slightly.
Delete Facebook account
The option to delete your Facebook account is a little more difficult to access and will depend on your account type... yes it's a little twisted and I think that no one understands anything about this social network anymore!
In the account settings (“ Profile Picture > Settings & Privacy > Settings") if the insert Accounts area is positioned at the top left in the Settings menu, it is possible to delete your account via this Account Space. However, if the Account Space is located at the bottom left of the Settings, deleting your account is done via your Facebook settings.
Deletion procedure via the Accounts Area :
To permanently delete your account via this section:
- Access your profile picture located at the top right on Facebook.
- Choose Settings and privacy and Settings.
- Access to Accounts area, located at the top left of the page.
- Accounts Manager Personal informations in the section Account settings.
- Head to Account ownership and control.
- Accounts Manager Deactivation or deletion.
- Choose the account or profile to delete.
- Click on Delete account.
- Press Continue and follow the confirmation procedure.

Deletion procedure via your Facebook settings :
To permanently delete your account:
- Access your profile picture, at the top right of Facebook.
- Choose Settings and privacy then go to Settings.
- Accounts Manager Your Facebook information.
- Opt for Deactivation and deletion.
- Click on Delete account, And then Continue with account deletion.
- Press Delete account, enter your password, and confirm by clicking on Continue.
After this step, Facebook tells you that you have 30 days to reconnect to your account to cancel the deletion procedure.
Finally, Facebook specifies that it takes up to 90 days to delete all of your data scattered across the network.
Likewise Facebook gives you the opportunity to recover an archive with all your data before proceeding to delete your account.
Delete an Instagram account
On Instagram's side, deleting an account is not too complicated. However, it should be noted that this deletion can only be done from the web version of the platform and not from the application itself. Finally, it is important to keep in mind that in the event of deletion of your account, all your photos and videos will be irretrievably deleted.
Additionally, the username of a deleted account cannot be reused subsequently.
- To get started, go to Instagram.com and log in
- Direct access on the page “ Modify my profile » you will only have access to a link to temporarily deactivate your account
- So, to permanently delete your account, press the button below which will take you directly to the correct page.
- Instagram will ask you using a drop-down list of choose the reason why you want to delete your account
- Then you have to re-enter your password and press the button Remove
Delete TikTok Account
For TikTok, the easiest way is to do it from the mobile app:
- Open the TikTok app.
- Go to your profile by clicking on Profile at the bottom right of the screen
- Click on three horizontal lines (the famous hamburger) top right
- Click on Settings and privacy and USER LOGIN
- Go to Disable or delete account
- Choose the option Delete the account permanently
- Answer the question asking yourself why you are leaving TikTok and clicking Continue
- TikTok will then offer to download your data before leaving
- On the same screen you will have to check a box indicating that you have understood that you are going to delete your account and click on Continue
- Enter your TikTok login information and click Delete account
Delete a YouTube account
On the YouTube side, Google has focused on simplicity and offers a relatively logical approach. And the manipulation is located at the level of your Google account:
- Visit your Google account page
- Click on Data and privacy
- Go down and look for the section Data from apps and services you use
- Then the insert Download or delete your data
- There, click on Delete a Google service
- A list of services associated with your account will be displayed. Click on the trash next to youtube
- In the deletion page choose the option I want to delete my content permanently
- Check all the boxes to mark your understanding and consent
- Then click Delete my content

Delete a LinkedIn account
On LinkedIn, the account closure procedure is relatively accessible:
- Go to LinkedIn and log in to your account
- Click on your profile picture at the top of the interface then on Preferences and Privacy.
- On the page Account Preferences, search for the section Account management at the very bottom of the page
- Click on Close the account
- LinkedIn will then ask you for the reason for this closure. Indicate it and then click on Next
- Enter your password and click on Close the account

Please note that if you are the owner of an active LinkedIn group, you will first need to transfer ownership of the group to someone else or close the group.
Delete a SnapChat account
Deleting your SnapChat account can be done either on the web or within the SnapChat app itself.
On the Web
- Click the following button which will take you directly into the settings to delete your account.
- Sign into your account
- To confirm the deletion of your account, you will need to re-enter your password.
- Press Continue
On the app
- Open the application
- Click on your profile picture on the top corner left
- Then press thegearing top right
- In the game Account Actions click on Delete account
- Sign into your account
- On the page that opens (identical to the web version) enter your password again and click on Continue
And there you have it, you have deleted your accounts on the main social networks. Now you can return to real life!
Remember to read all the information provided during deletion. Some platforms may retain data for a certain period of time or have delays before permanent deletion. Also, make sure to back up any important information before proceeding with deletion.
