Discover the Web Design Museum, an online museum of the history of website design

The Internet was made public in 1991… and since then the number of websites and online resources has continued to increase at breakneck speed. But beyond the number of websites available, it is also the programming technologies (the hidden side of the sites) and the design (the visible side) that have continued to evolve. If you could go back in time on the web twenty years, it would certainly shock you! The interfaces of that time would undoubtedly seem completely outdated!

And this is a bit of an experience that the Web Design Museum, a virtual museum that presents a selection of more than 1 websites to show the major trends in website design from 600 to 1991.

Along with these websites, the WDM also exhibits images of internet browsers (hello Netscape) or software like Photoshop.

A journey through the history of websites with the Web Design Museum

With this real work of memory, the Web Design Museum allows us to discover or rediscover real gems like the Apple site in 2001 presenting the new iMac, that of Netflix in 2003, of Amazon in 1999 or even Twitter in 2006!

For each site you will only be entitled to a simple screenshot but this already gives a good idea of ​​the design of the time.

If you visit the pages associated with web browsers or software, you will have access to other information related to this software in addition to several screenshots.

Among the other elements not to be missed in this virtual museum, the section Timeline, which allows you to view a timeline of the evolution of certain websites of major brands such as Google, Facebook, Coca-Cola, Airbnb and many others.

Finally, the section Exhibition allows you to find exhibitions of website designs based on a very specific theme such as "web design in the 90s", "the Pixel Art in web design”, “musician sites”… or even “adult sites in the 90s”.

In short, the Web Design Museum is a very nice site to visit to remember a bygone era when sites were often a little ugly but full of ingenuity to try to stand out!
