Artificial intelligence has been trying to learn to draw for a few years now, with varying degrees of success. To achieve this, developers generally use Machine Learning techniques that allow AI to learn by multiplying examples. Remember, for example,AutoDraw, a Google AI that tried to guess what you were drawing.
Among these artificial intelligences, I wanted to tell you about Aila. Aila is the algorithm behind Dzook, a site that will transform a person's photo into a portrait drawing.
This algorithm converts simple photos into artistic portraits. To achieve this, this AI algorithm was trained on thousands of works of art (AI Drawing, AI Photo)… and continues to improve every day!
An artistic portrait from a photo – Dzook AI photo drawing
If portrait painters are no longer in fashion as they were in previous centuries when photography did not exist and you do not want to go to Place du Tertre in Montmartre to have your portrait taken, you will perhaps be happy to discover Dzook.
Its operation couldn't be simpler.
Click on "Add your photo" to select a photo from your hard drive and click on "Draw me" to launch the algorithm. A few seconds later, you will see a drawing centered on your portrait.
You can then change the background color of the image (or keep it on a transparent background) and select the drawing style you want. There are 2 styles at the time of writing: glamour or anime.

This algorithm only works with photos that have humans in them… I wanted to test it with a dog… without success! If you take a group of several people, the tool will select one of them at its discretion.

In short, Dzook is an interesting site that demonstrates once again the incredible possibilities of artificial intelligence. I don't particularly like the rendering of the portraits, but... tastes and colors...
