As time goes by, your profiles on the Social Media accumulate your messages and publications… and this information remains public and accessible on the web.
And over time, it is quite possible that old messages that you have published are no longer relevant or no longer reflect your current thinking. And this is often the case with your very first messages on a network before you understand its codes and uses. Similarly, if you have been present for a very long time on a platform, you may have started as a teenager and you are now an adult… Your interests have probably evolved.
It is therefore legitimate to want to clean up from time to time the messages you have published on social networks to clean up your digital footprint.
Redact will help you delete old social media posts
Of course, it is possible to manually delete your old messages on Facebook, Twitter, Discord… but it is clearly not very effective!
The Redact application is a free and very easy to use utility that will allow you to clean a growing list of a dozen social networks.
In fact, this tool allows you to delete your tweets, retweets, images, videos and direct messages on Twitter ; your posts and comments on Facebook ; your messages, direct messages, photos and videos on Discord ; your pins and boards on Pinterest ; your conversations and posts on LinkedIn ; your posts, direct messages and comments on Reddit…and it also works with Imgur, Deviantart, Tumblr et Twitch.
There are also other services that have been announced to be supported and should therefore be available soon such as teams, Skype or Whatsapp, Instagram, Messenger, tinder, TikTok...
The beauty of Redact is that it allows you to delete all content from an account (this is the nuclear and irreversible option) or only the content from a specific period (this is also irreversible).
It is also possible to delete content based on keywords and/or exclude posts from deletion based on keywords. The tool has many filters that allow you to refine what you are going to delete.
And what's really cool is that you can automate these deletions at regular intervals (every 3 months or 1 year, for example).
And what's also good is that the tool offers a preview mode that will allow you to check what will be deleted... handy if you're not too sure about what you're doing!
Honestly, it's a pretty powerful tool!
To perform its cleaning tasks, Redact does not store user data or passwords, with authentication being done through each service's APIs.
Furthermore, Redact developers ensure that everything is designed respecting the rules of each service involved in order to avoid getting banned or blocked from each of the social networks.
The Redact app is completely free and has a Windows, Mac, and Linux version. Android and iOS versions are also in development and are expected to include paid features.
