If you need to crop an image to remove the background, the ultimate tool is Photoshop! But Photoshop is not within everyone's reach, both from a financial and technical point of view. So, what do you do when you want to remove the background of an image easily and for free?
We turn to the web, of course! And that's good, because there are more and more online tools that offer to cut out your images!
I had taken stock of 4 Free Tools to Remove the Background from an Image. Here is a 5th one called FocoClipping.
Remove the background from an image with FocoClipping
FocoClipping is a free online tool that will allow you to cut out the foreground of an image to remove the background.
Its use is very simple since you just have to upload your image by clicking on "Upload image", dragging it onto the small white and gray checkerboard or pasting it onto the web page using the shortcut Ctrl+v.
FocoClipping will then process for a few moments before automatically offering you a clipped version of your image. To do this, it will try to identify the type of image you are sending it between a product, a portrait or an illustration in order to optimize its work.
You will then obtain an image with a transparent background.
If the result is not perfect, with edges that are a little cropped, it is possible to refine things. Indeed, you have two tools at your disposal allowing you to add (Restore) or erase (Erase) areas.
To do this, simply select the tool you are interested in, adjust the size and hardness of the brush and move over the areas to add or remove. To help you with this task, it is possible to zoom in on the image.
Once you are happy with the result of the clipping, you can play around with your image a little bit. Indeed, it is possible to add a new background (solid color or photo), crop the image and add a shadow to your foreground.
You can then download your image by clicking on the "Download" button at the top right of the screen. You then have the option of recovering your image in PNG allowing you to preserve the transparency of the background or in JPG.
For the more patient who want a truly perfect result, FocoClipping also offers a manual clipping tool that will make you do all the work! It's well done but it can be tedious!
Overall, FocoClipping is a very good tool and has some really nice features that make using a photo foreground very quick and easy.
