There are quite a few tools on the web to identify fonts and I talk about them regularly on this blog: WhatTheFont, IdentiFont et I pass on some… But this list not being exhaustive, I had never spoken of FontFace Ninja.
FontFace Ninja is a web browser extension that allows you toinspect,try on our creations, bookmark and if necessarythe purchase any font on any website.
Available for Chrome, Safari and Firefox, this free extension can be installed and used in just a few clicks.
First use, FontFace Ninja allows you to find the name of any font on a website by hovering over it. You also get the font size, letter spacing, line height, and color.
I was a little taken aback at first, but for this feature to work, once you install the extension on your browser, you have to click on the small extension icon to make it active.
Once this is done, as soon as you hover over a text with your mouse you obtain all the information concerning its font.
Try a font
If you come across a font that you like, you will probably want to test it outside the context of the website you are visiting, with your own text. Well, that's possible with FontFace Ninja.
In fact, by clicking on a text box containing the font you are interested in, the extension will open a window in which you can write any text with the font in question. You can also change the size of the text as well as its spacing.
Favorite a font
A recent new feature of FontFace Ninja is that you will be able to save any font as a favorite. To use this feature, you will need to create a free account on the FontFace Dojo platform. This platform will offer you a lot of additional tools such as statistics, font pairing recommendations and links to other websites that use this or that font.
Download or purchase the font
Finally, the extension provides the user with a link to download the font if it is free or a link to a place where you can buy it if it is paid. FontFace Ninja's database includes prices and links to sellers of over 30 fonts!
In the end, FontFace Ninja is a small extension that is quite handy to use if you are looking for a font to brighten up your documents, websites, presentations, creations... It's free and well done!
