Future Urban Climate: Visualize your city's future climate in one click

Every day, the media reminds us how climate change is a major problem that we need to address now to prevent it from getting worse. However, we don’t always realize the extent of the impact that climate change or the increase in the greenhouse effect can have on our lives in the more or less long term. But now, it is possible to get a glimpse of what the climate of your city will look like in 60 years thanks to the Future Urban Climate project… If you have real estate projects with a long-term view, you might want to take a look!

By using current data and making projections, it is possible to attempt to make predictions about climate trends all over the world. And what is interesting is that all this information is grouped together on a map where you just have to enter the name of your city (if it is big enough) to get the climate data projected for 60 years.

Find out how hot your country will be around 2080 with the Future Urban Climate map

This world's map, available on the Fitzlab website, shows itself with a very simple design, allowing us to know the future climatic conditions that we could face if nothing changes. Thanks to this information, we can better understand the urgency of the situation that awaits us all.

This project, called Future Urban Climate, is run by a team at the University of Maryland's Center for Environmental Sciences in the United States. It allows you to analyze the climate of a city for the year 2080. Simply enter the name of the city in the search bar in the upper left corner.

The location of the chosen city will then appear, with text indicating the temperature increase predicted for 2080 as well as the evolution of the humidity rate. For example, in Paris, a temperature increase of 5,6°C is expected in summer and 3,2°C in winter. Summers would be 13.8% drier and winters 18.3% wetter.

In 60 years, if nothing changes, the climate of Paris will resemble that of Montelupone in Italy, minus the sea...

In addition to this temperature data, the site also indicates a similar location in terms of climateFor example, in 2080, the climate of Paris will resemble the current climate of the Italian village of Montelupone, in the Marche region on the shores of the Adriatic Sea.

By going to the card settings (settings) you will be able to change several things, including the level of carbon emissions. You will be able to see the climate impact if humanity makes the effort to reduce its emissions according to what was proposed during the Paris climate agreement in 2015.

Finally, you can add an overlay showing how similar the climate is. The reddest areas indicate the current climates that are most similar to your city's in 60 years.

There you have it, all you have to do is explore each village and city that you are wondering about the effects of climate change. This data concerns France, but also the rest of the world. Ultimately, this map answers the curiosity of those who want to know, based on the available data, how the temperature will evolve in 60 years.

In short, nothing to be happy about, so let's hope the situation isn't so tragic in 2080!
