Today, February 10, is the “ Safer Internet Day » (Safer Internet Day), so to mark the occasion, Google has decided to offer 2 GB of additional storage on Google Drive to all its users who agree to check the security of their Google account before February 17.
This assessment will take you through 3 critical security elements for your account.
First, Google will ask you to check your recovery information, that is, the contacts that Google can reach you with in case of problems with your account (your phone number, an alternative email address and your secret question).
Then you are going to have to review your recent activity by validating the location and/or device used during your last connections.
Finally, last step, you will have to do the review of all access permissions to your account granted to third-party applications or sites. Indeed, many services request access to your accounts to have access to your calendars for example in the case of planning applications… Make sure you know all the services, and if this is not the case, you can simply remove the authorization!
Once all the steps are completed, a summary will be displayed to tell you that everything is perfect. You will then have to wait until February 28 (approximately), the date on which your Google account will automatically increase by 2GB (you should also receive an email telling you this on the same date).
As you will have understood, beyond being a nice surprise with the recovery of 2GB of storage on Google Drive, this operation will also allow you to ensure the proper security of your Google account… But hurry, because you only have until February 17 to recover the 2GB!
As for security settings, Google recommends that you regularly repeat these checks by going to at this link !
