GREEN, by far the best online file converter in 2025?

online file converters, there are tons of them on the Internet. On the surface, they all promise the same thing: transform a document, an image or an audio file in a few clicks. Except that in practice, most quickly disappoint. Firstly, because they are often cumbersome to use, full of ads, or limited to a few popular formats. Secondly, they almost always force you to send your files on a third-party server, with no guarantee of confidentiality. And then there is VERT.sh. A simple, open-source tool that turns all that on its head. It converts files directly in the browser, without a single ad. Simply import your files, choose the output format, and it's all done in seconds. After a few minutes of use, it's easy to see why it's worth knowing about, especially for those who work with files on a daily basis.

How good is VERT as an online file converter?

VERT delivers on its promises. This is rare enough to be worth noting. The interface is straightforward, making it easy to use from the very first use. To start a conversion, simply add one or more files, either by dragging and dropping them or by using the selection button. Each file can have its own output format, or the same format can be applied to all of them using the "Set all to" option. Once ready, click "Convert All," and the conversion will begin immediately.

Processing is fast, even with multiple files. What sets this tool apart is that the images, audio files and documents are converted locally, without going through another server. This detail is also displayed on the interface, just above the supported formats.

Indeed, the most used formats are there: JPG, PNG, WEBP for images; MP3, FLAC, WAV for audio; DOCX, HTML, EPUB for documents… For the majority of common uses, VERT.sh is more than enough.

For videos, however, the operation is a little different. By default, they are sent to a remote server for the duration of the conversion, which remains quick and temporary. However, for those who want to keep everything local, it is possible to install your own instance of the green module via GitHubThe option is there, well documented, and accessible to those with some technical background.

Is this the ideal tool? Our opinion

VERT.sh is arguably one of the best conversion tools for those who want to save time without complications. It requires no installation, no account, and no complex manipulation. You import, choose a format, and download. And that's it.

During testing, no ads appeared, confirming the developers' promises. The tool is fast, stable, and can easily replace more complex software or questionable platforms. It will suit students as well as journalists, developers, and content creators.

A few thoughtful details add to the experience. Converted files automatically receive a "GREEN_" prefix, but nothing prevents you from customizing it in the "Settings" section. There are also useful details on how the service works, including video conversion and the privacy policy. And if you prefer to work in dark mode, a simple click in interface or in the settings is enough to change the appearance.

If there's one thing to criticize, it's the fact that the interface is only in English. Nothing to worry about, as long as you're fluent in the language, but it's always good to know. Overall, VERT does what it's supposed to do, straightforwardly, and that's exactly what we expect from a good web tool in 2025.
