If you need to create a map or basemap for any project, you've come to the right place. The easy solution is often to take a screenshot of Google Maps, but the result is neither beautiful nor of good quality.
So if you want to create your own custom HD maps, which you can then print, I can suggest the site mappin.
Mappin offers you a very simple tool to create your own custom maps with good resolution.
Create custom HD maps with Mappin
The first thing you will need to do when you go to Mappin is to choose a location to display on the map. No limit, you can choose a city, a country or even a continent. And anyway you can move the part of the map you see on the screen with your mouse or zoom in/out using the wheel.

Once you are happy with the part of the world that is displayed, click "Next". You can adjust the part of the map you see at any time.
In the next step, you can add points of interest to your map (marked by red pins) simply by clicking on it. Click on a pin again to remove the point.

Then choose the style of your map. Mappin offers you 6 free styles. For the other 5 styles, you will have to pay a few Australian dollars (1 Australian dollar = 0.65 euros). You will find a white style, a black one, a natural one which displays the colors of forests and bodies of water, a love style (pink and white), a forest style and a gray style.

Then define the layout of your card: landscape, portrait or square.

Then choose whether or not to add a border.

The last step allows you to select the size of your card. You can choose A4 or A3 for free. For A1, you will have to spend a few Australian dollars again.
To finalize your map, click on the “Create your map now!” button. The site will run for a few seconds and you will then be able to download the result in PNG format.
