When you search on Google, the search engine often returns hundreds or even thousands of results. Unfortunately, Google does not allow you to personalize your search results, particularly by excluding sites that you do not like.
So if you are looking for a solution to hide certain sites from search results, there is an extension called uBlacklist compatible with Chrome, Firefox and Safari. This extension works with Google but also other search engines like Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia or Startpage.
While Google does allow you to add some filters to your search results (like date or language), the site does not allow you to do a big clean-up in these. This is where uBlacklist comes in by blocking the sites that you do not want to see appear in your requests.
Hide a site from search results with uBlacklist
The first thing you need to do is install the uBlacklist extension on your browser:
- uBlacklist for Chrome
- uBlacklist for Firefox
- uBlacklist for Safari (macOS and iOS)
Once the extension is installed There are 3 ways to block websites.
By browsing the site in question
The first option allows you to block a site by going to it (so it will be the last time you visit it). In your browser, go to the site in question and click on the uBlacklist icon.
The extension will open a window offering you to block the site's domain name.

Directly in search results
The second option allows you to hide sites directly from the search results. google search.
In fact, the extension adds a “Block this site” link to the right of the title of each search result. This is a particularly effective option for sorting as you search.

From uBlacklist options
For the last option, simply go to the extension options. You can then list all the domains that you do not want to appear in your recherches.

By the way, in the options, uBlacklist allows you to do quite a few things. While it is possible to filter domain names, you can also refine your filters to only hide certain more specific pages.
It is also on this option page that you will be able to activate the extension on the different search engines on which it works. In addition to Google which is activated by default, this is the case for Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia and Startpage.com.
You can also import or export your blacklist in order to make a backup for example.
In the options, it is also possible to synchronize your "blacklists" between your different devices via Google Drive or Dropbox. This way your lists will be up to date regardless of the device on which you perform your search.
Finally, it is also possible to load a blacklist from a URL. Then, whenever the list is updated on the URL, your list will be updated as well.
Restore sites hidden by uBlacklist
To make hidden sites appear in Google search results again, simply go back to the uBlacklist options. There, you can delete the URLs you no longer want to block. Once you're done cleaning, press "Save" to save your changes.

Another more radical option: remove the extension and the hidden sites will reappear.
Convenient, right? Do you have any sites that you would like to no longer see in your Google search results?
