A few years ago, I presented to you on this blog a tip allowing you to read your whatsapp messages on the mobile app without your interlocutors knowing, but here is a small addition for the computer version of the messaging application.
I don't want to know what your reason for reading this article is, but it can be very important to make sure that your interlocutor does not see the famous double blue check mark that indicates that you have read their message.
So if you use theWhatsapp application on your computer or the web version, I will offer you two solutions (complementary to the tip for the mobile application) that will allow you to discreetly read the messages received on your computer without anyone knowing. So here is how to read WhatsApp messages without being seen!
Take advantage of notifications to read WhatsApp messages without being seen
Okay, it's not the panacea, but you should not forget that with WhatsApp your computer will display a notification for each message received, whether you are on Windows or MacOS.
So, if your WhatsApp window (application or web version in your browser) is hidden or in the background and you have an eye on your screen you will be able to follow the messages received by simply reading the content of the notifications… and the message will not appear as “read”. This solution has its limits since if the message is too long, it will be truncated.
For MacOS users this is not really a problem, since it is possible to scroll through the contents of floating notifications so that you can read everything… This is not the case for Windows.
Leave the WhatsApp application in the background
This trick relies on the way the WhatsApp application works. Indeed, WhatsApp will display a blue check mark to your interlocutor only if the window containing your discussion is in the foreground (i.e. when the application is active).
So, if you want to read the messages in a conversation without informing your interlocutor, you will have to make sure that the application remains in the background... while keeping it visible.
To achieve this, first select the conversation you want to monitor in the WhatsApp application or in the web version. Then open any window of any application (Notepad is probably the most convenient), position it in the foreground and resize it so that you can see the WhatsApp window in the background.
The most important thing is to never click on the WhatsApp window to never activate it… until you activate the window, the check mark will remain gray.
By the way, if you need to scroll through the conversation content, it is entirely possible on Windows and MacOS by hovering your mouse over the window and using the scroll wheel. Even if the window is in the background… just avoid clicking on it!
As you will have understood, the limit of this tip is that it is only possible to see the content of a single conversation and you therefore have to anticipate things.
In my opinion, themobile app tip still remains the most practical!
