La automatic entry, which allows you to automatically fill in your personal information in web browsers, can be very convenient and save you a lot of time, if you are on your home computer in a secure location. On the other hand, if you are at work you may want to prevent your private and confidential information from being recorded.
Most browsers have options to enable or disable autofill properties. We'll look at how to do this for each of them.
In Chrome
Here are the steps to follow in Chrome:
- Click on the menu (the 3 horizontal bars) at the top right of your browser
- Accounts Manager Settings
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Show advanced settings…
- In the game Passwords and forms you will find two boxes
- Make sure that the box Enable auto-complete to fill out forms is unchecked (otherwise uncheck it)
Alternatively, the property Manage autofill settings will allow you to manually remove information that you do not want to appear in the autocomplete.
In Firefox
To disable autofill in Firefox, the process is quite similar:
- Click on the menu (the 3 horizontal bars) at the top right of your browser
- Go to Options
- Select the tab on the left Privacy
- In the game History, put the conservation rules on use custom settings for history to show more options
- Uncheck the box Keep search and form history
One small downside is that in Firefox, disabling this option will also disable your search history in the search bar.
In Internet Explorer
Nothing revolutionary in Internet Explorer either, you will have to follow these steps:
- Click on the cogwheel at the top right of your browser (Tools)
- See you in Internet options
- Select the tab Content in the window that opens
- In the game Automatic completion click on Settings
- Uncheck all boxes to completely disable autofill
Of course, you can also choose to keep some autofill options depending on your needs.
Finally, to avoid leaving any traces, click on the button Delete autocomplete history.
And there you have it, you have everything you need to remove autofill in Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
