You have received a Amazon gift card, physical or digital? Great. To use it, you will need to validate it in your Amazon account. This process can be done on both computers and mobile devices. We explain how.
How gift card validation works
When you redeem a gift card, Amazon credits your account with the full value of the card. You can then use this credit to purchase eligible items on the site.
However, you can't buy other Amazon gift cards with your gift card balance, though you can purchase some third-party gift cards for other stores. You also won't be able to transfer gift card funds to other Amazon accounts or redeem them for cash. However, be aware that there are third-party gift card marketplaces if you really don't want to spend on Amazon.
Two Ways to Use an Amazon Gift Card
There are two ways to redeem a gift card in your Amazon account. The first is to add your gift card balance to your account and then use that balance to make purchases. With this method, if you don't want to buy right away, you can keep the gift card funds in your account.
The second method is to add the items you want buy in your Amazon cart, reach the payment page, and validate your gift card on this page. If your order total is greater than the gift card amount, the remaining amount will be charged to your default payment method.
We will show you the first method to use an Amazon gift card. Also note that physical and digital gift cards are validated in the same way; there is no difference.
Step 1: Find Amazon Gift Card Redemption Code
To use an Amazon gift card, you will need his claim code. This code is easily identifiable on your gift card whether it is physical or digital. It is this code that you will use on the Amazon website or mobile application to add the value of the card to your account.

A gift card code is 14 or 15 characters long and always contains letters and numbers, for example:
AB12-CDE345-FGH67
Step 2: Validate an Amazon gift card
Once you have found the claim code, you will be able to use either the Amazon website or the Amazon mobile app to validate the card.
Computer validation
If you are on your computer:
- Open a web browser and go to the website Amazon
- Log in to your account and hover over the “Account & Lists” menu at the top right to reveal a submenu.
- In the submenu, select “Your Account”.
- The “Your Account” page will then appear. On this page, click on “Gift Cards”.
You will then be able to check your current gift card balance.

- To add a new card to this balance, click the “Add to your account” button.
- This will take you to an “Add an Amazon.fr gift card” page.
- Here, click on the text field and enter your gift card claim code.
- Then click on “Add to My Account”.

Amazon will validate your card and add its value to your total gift card balance.
That's all there is to it to add gift cards to your Amazon account on desktop.
Mobile validation
If you're using an iPhone, iPad, or Android phone, you can use the Amazon app to redeem gift cards. With this method, you have the added option of scanning your gift card instead of manually entering the code.
- To get started, open the Amazon app on your phone.
- In the bottom bar of the app, tap the user icon (the stick figure).
- On the user page that opens, scroll down to the “Gift Card Balance” section.

- Tap “Redeem Gift Card”.
- The “Add Amazon.co.uk Gift Card” page will then open. On this page, you have two options to add your card to your account. You can either scan your card or manually enter your card’s redemption code.
To use the scan method, tap “Scan your gift card”, allow the app to use your camera, and point your phone’s camera at the redemption code on your gift card.
To manually validate your card, tap the “Enter gift card code” field and type in your card code.

- Once the code is entered, press “Add to My Account”.
Amazon will instantly add the value of the entered gift card to your account.
And there you have it, you’re done. With these new funds in your account, you’re now ready to buy what you’ve been waiting for. Happy shopping!
