Want to take a quick look at all your unread emails? If so, there are a few ways to view unread emails in Gmail. For a one-time view, you can perform a quick search to find unread messages in your inbox. If you're looking for a more permanent solution, you can make gmail first shows all your unread messages.
We explain these two solutions to you!
View unread emails in Gmail using quick search
This solution, which meets specific needs, uses a very practical feature of Gmail. Indeed, Google's messaging service has a quick search bar that allows you to view all unread emails! This method works just as well on a computer as on the Gmail mobile application.
To use this method, go to Gmail. Click on the search bar at the very top of your email box and type in the following code:
is:unread
Then once you have typed this bit of code which means "is:unread" press the "Enter" key or the "Search" button.

Gmail will then display a list of all your unread or marked messages, which may be spread over several pages if you have a lot of them.

You can now browse your unread emails, read them, categorize them, reply to them, or take any other action you deem appropriate.
Make Gmail always show your unread emails first!
For this second really handy option, the method differs whether you are on your computer or on the mobile app.
On your desktop, you can have Gmail show all your unread messages at the top of your inbox, followed by your other messages.
In the mobile version of Gmail, you can add a new tab that only shows your unread messages. Let's go there.
First view all your unread emails on computer
On your computer, open a web browser and go to Gmail. Then, in the upper-right corner of the site, click the gear icon and choose “See all settings.”
In Settings, select “Inbox” which appears gray in the list of tabs at the top.
On the Inbox settings page, click the Inbox type drop-down menu at the very top and choose Unread first.
Note: If you want to return to the default email view, click the "Inbox Type" drop-down menu and choose "Default."

Below the drop-down menu, you will see a new section called “Inbox Sections”. Here, next to “Unread”, click on the drop-down menu and choose the number of unread emails you want to appear in your Gmail inbox.
You can also click the "Other Messages" drop-down menu and choose how many other messages you want to appear.

Once you have finalized your settings, remember to save your changes by scrolling to the bottom of the settings page and clicking "Save Changes."
Gmail will then take you back to the inbox and you should see all your unread emails in a section at the very top of your inbox!

Add an “unread” tab to your mobile inbox
On your mobile device, launch the Gmail app. Then, in the upper-left corner of the app, tap the three horizontal lines (the famous “hamburger”).
In the menu, find and click on “Settings” at the very bottom.
In “Settings”, select the email address corresponding to your email account.
Among the many options, locate the “Inbox” section, then click on “Inbox type” and select “Unread first”.
Note: If you want to return to the default email view, click “Inbox” by default.

Now exit Gmail settings and click on the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner.
You'll then see a new section simply titled "Unread." Tap on it to view unread emails in Gmail.
