With my family, friends or even colleagues, I have been using WhatsApp for quite some time on a daily basis to replace text messages, emails or even quick phone calls. This messaging application is very practical, especially sinceIt exists on PC and Mac in addition to mobile versions.
Beyond text messages, it is also possible to share photos, videos, gifs… And yet, a relatively classic feature is absent from WhatsApp: the possibility of format text. Bold, italic, strikethrough, this star application does not offer any button to do it… And yet, it is possible!
Write in bold, italics, strikethrough… on WhatsApp
While there is no button to format text directly, it is still possible to do so using predefined characters. And as you will see, it's child's play!
So, you can use asterisks (*) to make a word or part of text bold:
To italicize text, you will need to surround it with underscores (_):
To cross out a text, you will need to use tildes (~):
And finally, if you want to use a fixed-width or monospaced font (i.e. a font in which all characters use the same horizontal space), you will need to use three consecutive grave accents (`):
Alternatively on Android and iOS, it is also possible to use the features specific to these systems to format texts, but this is not always practical.
I don't know if you knew this trick, in any case, I don't understand why WhatsApp doesn't directly integrate the possibility of doing it into its interface!
One thing is for sure, with this trick you can make your messages a little more fun and I'm sure your contacts will want to know how you do it! Probably a good opportunity to be smart!
