For the 20th year, the Internet Cities Label which aims to promote digital technology in towns and villages across France released its 2019 rankingsOn this occasion, the label also released an infographic to present the key figures on Internet use in France in 2009 and 2019.
This infographic, although very short, teaches us essential things about the digital transformation that has taken place in our country over the last decade.
What are the key figures for Internet usage in France in 2019?
First of all, in 10 years, the number of Internet users in France has almost doubled. They have gone from 30 million in 2009 to 57 millions in 2019 (+90%)… and at the same time, the number of online buyers has increased by 100% to 40 million… This also means that 70% of Internet users make purchases online...
In addition to being more numerous, French Internet users spend a lot, but then a lot more time online: 4 hours 43 minutes per day in 2019 compared to “only” 1 hour 30 minutes in 2009… connected time has therefore been multiplied by more than 3 !
And one of the main reasons for this increase, as you can imagine, comes from the explosion of the Smartphone! 81% of French people have a multifunction phone in 2019! And that is the real revolution. In 2009 only 12% of French people had a smartphone… Does this figure surprise you? Remember that the consumer mobile revolution was only launched at the end of 2007 in France with the release of the first generation iPhone. The iPhone 3G, Apple's first real success in mobile, only arrived in June 2008!
And you, where are you in all this?
