Infographic: the French and their smartphones, a real love story!

The audit and consulting firm Deloitte has produced an infographic based on a study on the use of their smartphones by the French in 2016.

This study conducted among 2 French people aged 003 to 18 and representative of the total population, reveals that now 75% of our compatriots own a smartphone! This is 77 points better than in 7 when this proportion was 2015%. In comparison, laptops equip 70% of French people and tablets 74%.

But what struck investigators most was that The French smartphone has become omnipresent (even invasive)! For one in five French people, no less than 5 minutes pass between waking up and first touching their phone (not counting, of course, turning off the alarm... eh!). And for the 5-18 age group (young people basically), this proportion rises to 24 in 2!

Then, throughout the day, we look at our smartphone on average 26.6 times (and 50 times for young people)... a sign of a real addiction some would say, of real usefulness others would say.

But that's not all, since 41% of us (probably the insomniacs) check our phones in the middle of the night and 7% even respond to messages!

In terms of use, the smartphone is really much more than a phone… and children have understood this well, as my 3-year-old daughter attests, who the other day was taking photos with my old Fisher Price dial phone! 84% of French people take photos with their smartphone and this trend should only increase with the constant improvement in the quality of photos!

But in the end, the smartphone is a real essential companion in all circumstances, at the risk of making us poorly educated or even antisocial people (85% of us use it in the presence of friends or relatives).
