When we think to connected objects, we think above all of gadgets used by technology fans… by geeks in a way.
However, if there is one part of the population for whom connected objects present real promises, it is the elderly! Connected objects are the solution to many problems related to aging, in terms of memory, in terms of autonomy, but also for everything related to comfort and the improvement of daily life.
Based on this observation, the company Audika, a French specialist in hearing implants, has therefore commissioned OpinionWay to carry out a study on the subject of the relationship of seniors with connected objects.
Make no mistake, seniors are well aware of the existence of connected objects since 86% of those over 50 say they know at least one connected object. But it's not enough to have heard of them... you have to use them! And that's what 25% of those over 50 do!
The first major trend that emerges from this study is that seniors are interested in connected objects, particularly for everything related to their health. And so, the objects that come to mind for seniors in this area and that they have already heard about are:
- watches (72%)
- activity trackers (60%)
- pedometers (48%)
- blood pressure monitors (46%)
- scales (40%)
Audika obliges, the study then turns to everything concerning connected hearing aids. Because yes, there are connected hearing aids, but only 19% of seniors have heard of them and yet 91% of them think that this type of device can improve the quality of life…
The infographic below summarizes the main points of this study:
