Are you a 24 year old man? Single? Are you a student or do you work? So YOU are THE typical online role-playing game (MMORPG) player!
This is in any case what emerges from Antoine Cholet's thesis work on learning in video games and more specifically in MMORPGs and which is summarized in the infographic below.
Thus, using a representative sample of 2 players, the author was able to determine the typical profile of online role-playing game players.
We thus learn from this study that
- 78% of players are men.
- They are aged from 8 to 60 with an average age of 24.
- 55% of them are single
- Only 10% of players have at least one child
- 82% of players work or study
- Study participants play an average of 26 hours per week
- ...
As you will see, a number of the figures below are quite close to the prejudices (78% of men...) but others are more surprising (71% of players have already met people they met while playing in real life).
