It's pretty rare that you'll need to restart Chrome, but for some reason you may need to do it while reopening all your tabs. It's of course possible to do it manually – which requires a few clicks to close and reopen Chrome and a few more clicks to restore your tabs – but we will see how to do it in one click !
As often with Google products, Chrome has some hidden features. They all involve typing a pseudo URL into the browser's address bar in the format chrome://feature.
Knowing this, there is a function chrome: // restart which restarts Chrome when you type it in the address bar and type Starter.
This is already a good start, but we're going to make things even simpler by bookmarking this URL to create a shortcut to restart Chrome with one click.
First, make sure that the bookmarks bar is displayed on the browser. If you don't see it, just press Ctrl + Shift + B to make it appear under the address bar.
Then open any website and drag the icon to the left of the URL in the navigation bar to the bookmarks bar, like this:
Then right-click on this new favorite and select Edit in the menu that opens.
In the "Edit Bookmark" dialog box that opens, change the name to something that will help you find your way around (like "Restart Chrome"), change the URL to chrome: // restart And click Save.
You can now click on your new bookmark to instantly restart Chrome.
That's it, with one click, you can now restart Chrome and restore all your tabs. Moreover, if you have several windows open, each with several tabs open, they will all reopen in the state you left them in! Practical!
