iPhone 5, the last straw!

Here is a "rant" post to tell you my opinion of the iPhone 5. In 3 months I am already on my 4th copy!

As a big fan of the iPhone, I bought the iPhone 5 as soon as it came out. I wanted to replace my iPhone 4, which although still going strong, was starting to experience some slowdowns.

So I bought my iPhone 5 on pre-order in mid-September 2012. I received the beast on time. But I quickly realized that there was some play in the vibrator button… If this detail could have passed on an entry-level phone, I estimated that at €900 I needed something close to perfection in terms of finish.

As usual, Apple did not hesitate to exchange my device by sending me a courier... in this regard, Apple remains at the top and is irreproachable.

September, October go by… and mid-November I notice that I systematically have a black dot that appears on the photos that I take using the rear camera of my iDevice! I say to myself "oh my" and contact Apple who suggests that I make an appointment in a genius bar when? Well sorry all the appointments are already taken (they only have a 7-day view)… try to make an appointment in a few days… Ok great!iphone5-hair-too-1I still manage to get an appointment.

So I went to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store Opéra, which noticed the problem and replaced my iPhone 5 64GB without any problems. Nice, but I'll have to buy a new screen protector...

I get home. Connect my new iPhone to my computer so I can restore it and install my backup when I notice a hair on the back of the machine (at least it's not in his hand). I run my finger through it to remove it... but, oh shock, the hair is stuck to the device. And when I look more closely I see that the cover in which the hair is caught is rather loose.

iphone5-hair-too-3Even though it's noon, time to prepare lunch, I grab my coat and jump on a subway to go back to the Apple Store...

Greeted at the entrance by men in red (and yes, blue is less Christmassy), I am asked to queue behind the guy who is in charge of booking the Genius appointments… which I do, a bit irritated after showing them the object of my discontent.

After 15 minutes of queuing, I was taken straight to the Genius bar where an Apple employee, who was genuinely shocked by this problem (or at least playing his role of appeasement well), suggested that I wait 2 seconds while he went to the workshop to unscrew the back cover to remove the hair...

Dumbfounded, I protest and the guy quickly understands that on a new iPhone (they apparently don't do refurbs on the 5 yet) this is not tolerable.

So he finally exchanged my iPhone 5 for my 4th model in the series, while telling me that he would report this problem and that he would take photos...

In short, I'm on my 4th iPhone 5 and Apple will never make a commercial gesture!

One thing is certain, if the prices of Apple devices continue to increase, the quality of its products evolves symmetrically and deteriorates inexorably...
