kMeet, a free and efficient solution for all your video conferences

Article updated on January 5, 2025 by Byothe

With the COVID era, a new habit has become democratized both professionally and personally: videoconferencing. While tools have long existed to transform the web into a virtual meeting room, this practice has become democratized and widespread at high speed in 2020!

From the first days of COVID, we all exchanged our good video tips to choose from the major players in the field: Teams, Zoom, Meet… Very good tools but sometimes too heavy or limited for personal use.

That's why I wanted to introduce you to a very good alternative called kMeet.

This tool was set up by a web player that has been on the rise for several years: Infomaniak. Moreover, this is not the first service of the Swiss company and I had told you about SwissTransfer, a free service for sending large files. Besides that, Infomaniak earns money thanks to its web hosting services, messaging (which I use for emails on Byothe.fr), cloud servers, etc.

In short, as a user of some of the company's services, I can tell you that it's always serious, even for free products like kMeet!

Free video conferences with kMeet

To offer you an effective and free solution, kMeet relies on the free videoconferencing application Jitsi meet.

Using this service does not require any registration and no download is required. In fact, you can create and join your meetings directly from your browser web whether from your computer, tablet or smartphone.

But if you use kMeet regularly, Infomaniak also offers an application to install on your computer. This way, you have the service at hand at all times.

While some big names in videoconferencing have or have offered their services for free with a time limit, this is not the case with kMeet. This tool offers an unlimited meeting experience… no more meetings that cut off after 30 minutes.

Finally, and this is one of Infomaniak's mainstays, it respects your privacy. Your data is secured in Switzerland, exchanges are encrypted and meetings can be password protected.

If you are an Infomaniak customer, kMeet will integrate into your other products, particularly your messaging and calendar.

In terms of interesting features, this service allows you to share your screen and even draw on it!

It is also possible to use a wallpaper to customize your background.

Organize a meeting with kMeet

To organize a meeting in just a few clicks, nothing could be simpler. Go to the kMeet homepage.

On this home page, you will be able to join an existing meeting using the meeting code or link, schedule a meeting (if you use Infomaniak messaging) or start a new meeting.

Click on Start a new meeting and give your meeting a name. It is also on this écran that you will be able to secure your meeting (password, encryption, etc.).

Then choose whether you want to join the meeting from the browser or from the app.

You will then find yourself in the meeting waiting room and you will be able to adjust and test the audio and video as well as add a background or a background blur effect.
