From watches to smartphones and drones, connected objects are already invading the daily lives of the French. The concept is increasingly popular and is even taking over our homes. So what are the advantages of a connected home and how does it work in terms of the application of these devices?
Connected objects in a smart home
Who says smart home says connected objects to make daily life easier. According to a survey carried out among French households owning a connected home, the most popular items are lighting, alarm systems, heating and roller shutters. Apart from these systems, the majority of these households also want to equip themselves with additional accessories to improve their daily lives. Televisions, light bulbs and connected speakers are favored while ovens, locks and refrigerators are at the bottom of the list. If we analyze the situation, people prefer to install these connected objects in their living room or lounge than in the kitchen or bedroom. Surely for an aesthetic, practical reason and to receive guests in a designer and modern atmosphere.
More advantages than disadvantages
Despite the reluctance of some households who perceive connected objects as an obstacle to privacy, these systems offer more advantages than disadvantages. They allow you to save money and, above all, to control your home remotely. This control ensures optimal control and security of the home via an internet connection. These connected objects are also preferred for detecting anomalies in the home and for sending a rapid signal in the event of an intrusion. Even if some users think that their privacy and personal data will be made public, designers and distributors of connected objects continue their efforts to prevent this inconvenience.
Still a long way to go
In recent years, the sale of connected homes has been on the right track, although doubts still linger on the subject. Apart from the advantages in terms of security, control and improvement of daily life, the threat to privacy, the price, the difficulty and the lack of knowledge on the use of devices prevent some households from taking the turn towards the connected home. According to the same survey, almost 80% of French households have heard of the smart home while only 30% equip their home with connected objects. Since the field is growing significantly, more than 60% of those surveyed plan to install these systems in their homes, mainly outside (gardens, terraces) and in their living room.
