If you're a frequent web reader (I am), you probably come across interesting content that you want to save or archive. When it comes to entire articles, you can always print it as a PDF, but when it comes to sentences or quotes, a tool that lets you highlight and save content is a real asset!
And there is a free extension that works on the main web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.) that allows you to do this: Liner.
With Liner, you will be able to highlight and comment on important excerpts from blog articles or news. But you will also be able to organize what you have highlighted into folders… which will allow you to sort them by theme and share them with your friends.
Using Liner to Highlight the Web
The first thing to do is to add the extension to the browser you are using by going to the website Liner.
Once the extension is installed, click on the extension symbol in your browser to create an account on Liner (which will allow you to save what you do).
Then, to use Liner, simply select a portion of text on an article and click on the extension icon to highlight and save the excerpt in question.
So, as soon as you go back to the article, you will find the excerpts that you have highlighted. But, you can also find everything that you have highlighted on the web by going to your dashboard on the Liner site.
In short, Liner is a handy little utility for anyone who keeps watch or searches for information online! It allows you to save and organize anything that is of interest… In my opinion, it is an incredible tool for organizing this research as part of a thesis or report!
Finally, if you want more features, there is a premium version that offers different highlight colors and the ability to create as many folders as you want. But in most cases, the free version is more than enough!
