Wireless headphones: I compared prices from 1,280 retailers

229 euros here, 279 euros there, 259 euros elsewhere. Same. Sony WF-1000XM5Same box, same warranty.

I was looking for a pair of headphones last month. That's when I discovered these discrepancies. 50 euro difference for the same product. That annoyed me, so I dug deeper.

AirPods Pro 2 A €40 difference between Fnac and Cdiscount the same week the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro199 euros at Darty versus 169 euros on Amazon. Sony WH-1000XM5 (the helmet, this time), 80 euros difference between Rue du Commerce and the price displayed in supermarkets. The same story every time.

The problem is, we're not going to manually check ten websites before every purchase. I ended up using MagicPrices.fr, a French comparison site that covers more than 1,700 merchants. Fnac, Darty, Amazon, Cdiscount, Rue du Commerce, and quite a few specialized audio shops that I didn't even know about.

What I really like is, among other things, the price history. Before jumping at a "30% off" deal, I check the price history. If the price has been the same for six months and the crossed-out price never actually existed, I walk away. It's saved me from being ripped off more than once.

Another handy tip: the email alertsI found my WF-1000XM5s that way, after receiving an alert one Saturday morning, for 47 euros less than the price listed at Fnac. The kind of pleasant surprise that makes you love online shopping again.

Three models I recommend (and what price range to aim for)

Since we're talking about headphones, here are the three models I've tested the most in recent months, along with the price at which they're worth buying.

Sony WF-1000XM5 They remain my benchmark. The noise cancellation surpasses anything I've tried, including the AirPods Pro 2. The sound is warm and detailed, and the app allows you to fine-tune the equalizer to your liking. Their only drawback: the case, which gets scratched within the first week.
Normal price: 260-280 euros. Target price: under 220 euros (This happens 3-4 times a year, especially on Black Friday and during the French Days in May).

AirPods Pro 2If you're on an iPhone, this is the obvious choice. The iOS integration is unbeatable, with instant pairing, spatial audio, and automatic switching between iPhone and Mac. Noise cancellation has finally caught up with Sony's offerings in the latest update. However, if you're on Android, look elsewhere; you'll miss out on half the features.
Normal price: 250-279 euros. Target price: under 200 euros.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 ProThat's the surprise. The sound has taken a leap forward with the planar magnetic drivers. Noise cancellation is up to par. And the price is significantly lower than the other two. The downside: comfort. The stem-like shape, similar to AirPods, doesn't suit all ears; try them in a store before buying.
Normal price: 180-220 euros. Target price: under 150 euros.

In terms of timing, the Black Friday This remains the best time for premium headphones (-20 to -35%). French Days of May are also interesting; Darty and Rue du Commerce often release their best audio deals there. Outside of these periods, alerts MagicPrices.fr They do the work; it's the least tiring method to buy at the right price.
