As we live in the era of data, it is always exciting to come across sites that exploit the available data to the fullest to offer incredible tools. This is the case of the Mobility Portal map from the company geOps. This interactive map and which updates in real time uses an astronomical quantity of data to display all trains, metros and buses in France and around the world.
View all trains, metros and buses in France on the geOps Mobility Portal website
The geOps Mobility Portal displays the positions of thousands of public transport vehicles worldwide, including trains, buses, metros and trams, for free. For all these vehicles, positions are calculated from timetables (published by transport companies worldwide) or, when available, from real-time data.
To some extent, Mobility Portal reminds me a bit of the excellent Graou Map, an interactive map of trains in France.
On the map, colored circles allow you toidentify the different public transport lines and the colors seem a priori faithful to the colors of these lines in real life. For example, in Paris the metro line 2 is displayed in blue, the RER A is in red… I don't know if this is true for all transport everywhere in the world, but in any case, in Paris it seems to be the case. Then, a border around these colored circles allows to have information on punctuality and the real time :
- No border = journey without real-time data
- Green border = on time or maximum 3 min late
- Orange border = 3 to 5 minutes delay
- Red border = more than 5 minutes late
- Red cross = canceled
By clicking on any of these points, you will be able to obtain some information. Thus, you will be able to see the bus, tram, metro line as well as all its stops and the theoretical times of passage at each station. At the bottom of the window, you will also be able to know the source of the data.

So, by taking a little height on a large city like Paris, we realize the density of the transport offer. Even if we can make a lot of criticisms of public transport, the number of vehicles in circulation at a given moment is quite impressive and shows the complexity of the subject!
An interactive map of public transport
In the upper part of the site, a search field allows you to find a station very quickly and center the map on it.

To the left of the search field, by clicking on Topics, it is possible to customize the map view a bit. You can notably display/hide the different bus lines as well as tram and metro lines, but also choose to show the name of the stops, points of interest, streets, etc.

At the bottom of this window, several options allow you to make a screenshot of your card, to send it to you by email, to retrieve a link to your card or to share it on social networks!
Finally, it is also possible to change the background map and Mobility Portal offers 4 options: network map, SBB (Swiss Railways) network map, night mode, aerial view.
In the end, with its Mobility Portal, geOps offers a truly impressive interactive tool with global coverage and very high-quality data! Don't hesitate to go and have a look at this very impressive tool!
