Since the web has been the web, technologies and programming languages have evolved to allow developers to enrich websites and especially to improve their ergonomics. If it still happens today to come across sites that are completely outdated in terms of design, it is nevertheless difficult to remember what we endured at the origins of the web or at least at the end of the 90s.
So, a website had fun gathering screenshots of the most famous websites on the web representing the different stages of their evolution. In all, a dozen sites (for the moment) are listed in the Museum of Websites for our greatest pleasure. Among these you can find Google, Amazon, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or even Netflix and Airbnb… all great classics!
Here, for example, is the evolution of Twitter since its creation in 2006, until today... one thing is clear... web designers have made huge progress in 12 years!
A reference of its time for finding one's way around the web, here is also the Yahoo! home page in 1997:
But that's not all because you will discover many things like the fact that Netflix already existed in 1999... At the time, it was a site offering unlimited DVD rental subscriptions (it's already not bad, we escaped VHS). It was not until 2007 that Netflix initiated its transformation towards streaming!
In short, Museum of Websites is not yet very extensive, but it allows you to discover or rediscover some amazing pages in the history of the web!
