When the French language wants to stay in tune with the times, it is at the Commission for the Enrichment of the French Language that it is up to us to enrich it with the help of terminological creation and neologisms... If there is one area in which a large number of words are taken straight from English or American dictionaries, it is that of technology and in particular that of video games.
As a result, a whole series of new words have just appeared in our dictionary since April 8 and the publication of its press release in Official newspaper. A major clean-up that should please purists, but annoy some... as is the case every time new words arrive.
So you won't have to say anymore hardcore gamers closest hyperplayer ! MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing game) become JRMM (Massive multiplayer online role-playing game) Et les casual gamer are now casual gamers.
Honestly, for my part, I think I will continue to use the term FPS (first person shooter) instead of JTS (first person shooter game) but I think the initiative is rather good and that it is important that the language of Molière preserves part of its identity by translating the words or at least by Frenchifying them.
